The aqueduct connects 2 countries- England with Wales and is 70 foot high and 710 feet long and carries the Llangollen canal over the Ceiriog valley near Chirk, just before Chirk Tunnel if coming from England. It was built between 1796 and 1801 by Thomas Telford and William Jessop.

Above the aqueduct is a viaduct carrying the trains to Chirk built in 1846-8, and standing 100 foot high. Both are fantastic structures carrying passengers by water and train across the beautiful Welsh valley.
